Restaurant Prime in Huntington During COVID-19

Restaurant Prime is a high-end steakhouse with two locations on the East Coast: Huntington, Long Island and Stamford, Connecticut. Their New York location is by Huntington Harbor, and they specialize in steak and seafood. According to their website, the restaurant was designed to “reflect the look of a classic boathouse along the Charles River.”

I visited Prime’s Huntington location with a 6:30 PM reservation for two people on a snowy evening. Due to the snow alert, the restaurant notified me that they were to close early. But despite the weather conditions,it was still pretty busy and we were seated approximately twenty minutes after our reservation time.

When we sat down, we noticed that the ambience of the restaurant was very beautiful, with modern decorations and somewhat-dim lighting to establish a relaxing setting. To conform to the social distancing laws for New York State, there were dividers between each table and everyone was mandated to wear a mask unless seated at their tables.

My guest and I ordered our food and received everything all at once about 30 minutes after placing our orders. We both ordered a petite filet mignon, with a side of whipped potatoes, prime fries, and creamed spinach. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, and each side complemented our main entrées splendidly.

This restaurant had several positives about it. Both the indoor and outdoor settings are beautiful, the food is delicious, and their menu options are inclusive with gluten-free and vegetarian options. Their wine list is also extensive and their compliance with social distancing laws are very reassuring.

While there are several brilliant aspects of Restaurant Prime, there are some negatives as well. For one, the menu is on the pricier side with a $44 8-ounce petite filet mignon and entrées that do not include sides. Each side dish is an additional $13 with fairly small portions.

In addition, the staff was not the friendliest during this specific visit; I called in advance to push back my reservation by thirty minutes and it was not updated properly. Because of this, the hostess told me that I missed my reservation, so I needed to wait longer than normal for a table. Our server was also not very present throughout the evening and we waited quite some time to receive our bill. He only checked in on us once or twice, and we also got some odd stares from other members of the staff.

Overall, Restaurant Prime in Huntington is a perfect spot for a special date night out or for birthday celebrations. If the staff is feeling generous, they might give you a $25 birthday gift card to apply to your next visit. With the precautions taken against the spread of COVID-19, you will feel safe and secure with the handling of your food and the cleanliness of your table. If you would like to experience the delicious meals and aesthetically pleasing setting of this restaurant, head over to their Huntington location at 117 North New York Avenue.
