A popular sushi dining experience has finally made its way to Long Island. The other night I had the opportunity to visit the recently opened Kura Revolving Sushi Bar located in Carle Place.

Unlike a typical sushi restaurant, Kura Sushi’s concept involves taking plates of sushi and nigiri (sashimi) from a moving conveyor belt connected to the dining table. Once seated, patrons are able to immediately grab plates of sushi and other foods from the conveyor belt.

My dining partner and I were seated right away once we arrived at the hostess stand. Right away, we were greeted by revolving plates of sushi along our table. We each grabbed our first plates. I picked out one of the monthly special plates of nigiri, the Kumamoto Wagyu.

The meat itself was cooked decently rare, which is the way I prefer my steak. I dipped it in soy sauce mixed with dried wasabi; something I have never seen before at a sushi restaurant. The meat was extremely tender and the rice was still warm.

I picked a few more plates from the belt and ordered my partner and me  some hot green tea from the touch screen menu, located on top of the belt system. If patrons are not seeing the food they want from the belt, it can be ordered from this touch screen. Whatever is ordered from the menu will arrive on a second belt, located on top of the revolving belt.

We grabbed more plates such as tuna nigiri, salmon nigiri, umami oil salmon nigiri, and scallop nigiri. They were all surprisingly fresh with warmed white rice. The umami old salmon was a highlight from this selection. In addition, I ordered a bowl of miso soup from the touch screen menu. The miso soup can only be described as “average.”

In total, my partner and I ordered 13 plates of sushi with our bill staying under sixty dollars. Our time at the restaurant was short as we never had to wait for our food to come. If you are seeking a quick, delicious, yet different type of sushi dining experience, Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is a great choice for lunch or dinner.
