The Ultimate Guide to Panther Pride

This week marks the start of our annual Panther Pride Homecoming! From Wednesday, September 27 to Saturday, September 30, enjoy a series of on-campus events, activities, and fun! Here’s a detailed schedule of what to expect.

Wednesday, September 27, 2023

Panther Pride Kickoff Lunch (2:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Atrium): Join the OW community for a celebration of the beginning of Homecoming. Lunch will be served to attendees, including a nacho bar and Italian ices. 

Alumni Career Night (5:30 p.m. in NAB 1100): Hear from former OW Men’s Basketball players about adjusting to their professional careers “from the locker room to the board room.” Take this opportunity, hosted by Alumni Affairs, to learn from mentors who were once in your shoes. Free food will be served and pre-registration is required for attendees. For RSVP information, check Panther Connect.

Meet the Royal Court (7:30 p.m. at the Student Union Panthers Pad): Candidates for this year’s royal court will get to meet and speak to the OW community. Attendees can also enjoy some Domino’s Pizza! Learn more about how the Royal Court functions on their website

Fuel Up with Commuter Outreach (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Campus Center, Parking Lot): CSLI, SGA, and Commuter Outreach are bringing the Buzz’d truck to campus for some coffee and tea to help “fuel you up” for Homecoming. The first 100 students, faculty, and staff to attend can enjoy their drinks for free!

“Cookie Hooky” Hour (12:00 p.m. throughout Campus): Look out for the President’s Cabinet traveling throughout campus for free cookies and treats!

Cake-Off Decorating Competition (2:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Atrium): While decorating cakes requires pre-registration, you could still attend this annual tradition and see which team’s cake you think shows their Panther Pride the best!

Stay Up at the Union (11:59 p.m. – 4:00 a.m. in the Student Union Multipurpose Rooms): Get ready for an overnight party at the Student Union! The Campus Activities Board hosts a “White Lie” themed night of fun, games, free food, and giveaways! Show up with a white shirt and write your own white lie on it.

Food Truck Friday (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex): The “Trini Bites” Food Truck will be joining the OW community to serve some Caribbean food. The first 150 students to show up will receive free “Roti Bowls.”

Student vs. Faculty/Staff Softball Game (2:30 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex): That’s right! Your professors, advisors, and other faculty and staff will be playing against the students in a fun softball game. Go cheer them on!

Alumni Networking Reception (5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at The City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill): Reconnect with your peers at this alumni-only reception! All tickets have already been reserved, so if you missed out this year, be sure to stay tuned with Panther Pride updates next year on their website or on SUNY Old Westbury social media accounts.

Fraternity and Sorority Expo (8:00 p.m. at the Maguire Theater): Join FSL in, “Channel Surfing,” as OW’s fraternities and sororities perform to celebrate homecoming. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. and students and their guests must RSVP via Panther Connect in advance.

Admissions Open House (9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Campus Center, NAB, and Student Union): If you want to join the OW community, this event is for you! You can learn about what OW has to offer and catch a glimpse at some of our homecoming fun!

OW Alumni Tailgate (10:00 a.m. at the Clark Center Parking Lot): It’s exactly what it sounds like! Alumni can tailgate for PantherFest, and set up grills and chairs. Alumni pre-registration is required.

Women’s Soccer Game (11:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex): The women’s soccer team will face the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Cheer on the Panthers with friends, family, and the OW community!

OW Roast (11:30 a.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex): Enjoy a hotdog from the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing, Bryan Terry, and a cold non-alcoholic drink during the soccer game. Alumni pre-registration is required.

Meet the President (12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Student Union Panthers Pad): Take this opportunity to meet with OW President, Timothy E. Sams. You can learn about the University’s path, goals, and accomplishments.

Alumni Tent (1:00 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Meadows Terrace): This alumni-only event is a place to reconnect, have lunch, and meet the President. A list of scheduled activities will be sent to registered alumni prior to the event. Alumni may bring guests. Pre-registration is required.

PantherFest Carnival and Family Day (1:00 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex): This carnival is open to OW students, faculty, staff, and their families! Show your families your Panther Pride and let them join in on the fun! Alumni can attend, but pre-registration is required. 

Salute to Hip-Hop Concert (5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the John & Lillian Maguire Theater): Celebrate 50 years of hip-hop at this musical event! OW alumni, Kool Moe Dee ‘87 and Darryll “DLB” Barksdale ‘97 with the Fearless Four, will be performing. Special guests, Joe$ki Love and KimieChen, will also perform. Pre-registration is required for alumni, OW students, faculty/staff, and the general public.

Royal Court Coronation (9 p.m. – 1 a.m. at the Student Union Multipurpose Rooms): The OW Royal Court Royalty will be crowned for the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes. This will be the final Panther Pride Homecoming event and is open to current students and their approved guests.
