On December 4, around 6 p.m. EST, video game company Rockstar Games unveiled the trailer for the newest installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise: ‘Grand Theft Auto VI.’ The trailer was forced to be released a day early by Rockstar Games after it was leaked on Twitter/X a few hours earlier.

Originally, Rockstar Games announced on their website that the ‘GTA VI’ trailer would finally arrive to the public on December 5 at 9 a.m. EST. With the trailer being leaked on social media the day before, Rockstar Games quickly released the trailer a day earlier.

The minute and thirty second trailer shows off some story details for the game. The two playable protagonists of the game are introduced in the trailer, a duo known as Lucia and Jason. The only information given in the trailer about them is that Lucia is in prison at one point, Lucia and Jason are romantically linked, and the pair are shown attempting to rob what looks like a gas station convenience store.

However, what makes ‘GTA’ games so immersive are the attention given to details in the world, as shown heavily in the trailer. All of the non-playable characters shown are animated down to their finest individual details. The lighting and hyper-realistic textures of the buildings, cars, and environment can only be described as groundbreaking. All of it is wrapped up in classic ‘GTA’ craziness, from bikini clad women to biker gangs.

Rockstar Games provides some information and context about ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ on their website. The game will be set in Vice City, a location previously introduced in the game ‘Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.’ Judging from the social media aspects displayed in the trailer, ‘GTA: VI’ will be set in the modern day, differing from ‘GTA: Vice City’s’ 80s backdrop.

‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ will be released on Playstation 5 and XBOX Series X/S in 2025. There was no mention of when ‘GTA VI’ will be coming to PC.
The last installment in the ‘GTA’ franchise, ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ was released in September 2013, over ten years ago. Fans have been eagerly awaiting for the next installment in the ‘GTA’ franchise for a long time now, and this trailer proves that the ten year wait was worth it.
